illustratie uitnodiging

The Dutch Handbookbinding Foundation (Stichting Handboekbinden) is organizing an international Miniature Bookbinding Competition.(click here for further reading)

The famous Dutch writer Geert Mak will exclusively write the text ( in English) for the miniature book to bind. Moreover, the well-known graphic designer Max Kisman will do the illustrations.  The sheets will be printed by De Buitenkant’s  printers, after which the binders can get to work to create their masterpiece. The bindings will be judged by a jury of bookbinding experts and exhibited at the Meermanno Museum. A delightful catalogue including all participants will be published in 2017.

Bookbinders from all over the world can participate in the competition. Only one binding per entry is allowed. Registrations must be received by October first 2016. The sections (sheets) will be sent to the participants from September 2016. The competing book must have been  received by the competition’s committee by April 30th 2017 at the latest. Three prizes will be awarded of € 1000,       € 750 and € 500 respectively.

Each participant will receive three (3) sets of sections (sheets), of which one is to be used for the competing book. The remaining sets are for personal use: creating (a) sample  copy/copies and/or a personal copy.

All prize winning books will become the property of  the Meermanno Museum. They will be part of a new collection of miniature books, to be constituted as a result of this competition. All other participants will also be given the opportunity to have their entry incorporated in this special collection of miniature books , which will ultimately be given a name.  A certificate will be issued as a receipt. Participants who do not wish to make use of this opportunity will have their book returned to them on the conclusion of the exhibition. There will be an extra charge for postage and package costs.

Entry fees are € 75 per entry, plus € 10 if the competing book will have to be returned to the participant after the exhibition.  Entry fees include participation in the competition and a copy of the catalogue. Maximum amount of registrations is three per bookbinder. .

All participants will be mentioned in the catalogue published on the occasion of this competition. In the autumn of 2017 the competing books will be exhibited in the Meermanno Museum. The jury reserves the right to exclude books from the Museum’s exhibition and pictures thereof from the catalogue,  all this is for the jury to judge by mutual agreement with the Meermanno Museum.
